all label printers use thermal transfer technology, no ink/toner consumption at all, the thermal transfer has the advantage of low consumable cost and fast printing, but the downside is considerably low printing resolution. And the thermal mechanism dominated most of its cost. This dual printer model should be used in a fast pace environment like takeout counter to double printer efficiency and at this price point, this one is unbeatable //@Anonymous: Market share? Fewer people buy these, I assume, which means lower demand to defray overhead. Also, I suspect the ink/toner is of a different, more expensive composition to account for the use, and the mechanisms must handle heavier media. Kind of makes sense to me, though I am no expert in ANY OF THESE FIELDS... //@Anonymous: Why are these so expensive? It is essentially a printer.

Setup a free KMS server(open sourced, you can run it in docker), and activate your copy of Windows with M$ purposely 'leaked' volume keys, you get a full functioning Windows for free(need to reactivate it automatically against the KMS server every 120 days). Don't feel guilty, you trade your privacy with the free use (as long as you don't use it for commercial purpose), M$ knows it, and allows it. M$ wants your big data.

True. Mine kept blocking the ink if I don't use it often. The color becomes pink so I have to do power cleaning which wastes a lot of ink. This printer starts having issues after 1.5 years. Old HP printers lasted longer than 5 years+ //@Anonymous: need to often print to prevent ink from drying so that block the printer's head. //@Anonymous: I have this, it's pretty crappy printer. Yeah the refillable ink concept is great, but the print head often become dirty and need to be deep cleaned, around every 3 months or so, the process which expends 1/4 of the ink each time, also the waste ink goes to a "maintenance box" that needs to be replaced with a new one.

You don't have to pay to use Windows. Anyone can download the installer and install it. You lose features, but it is still free. Most people get Windows included free with purchased machines. Disabling intrusive data collection is very simple. Cope. //@anonymous: because you don't have to pay to use it. //@Anonymous: Why would anyone use Linux
